"La*d off and have 2 months to go, my boss wants me to work more and tell them how to do their job - what would you do?"

I was laid off by a large organization. It was quite unfair and not based on my performance. They laid off

experts doing all the work and kept managers and middle managers, including my clueless boss.
  • 04
I was given a two month notice. My boss keeps giving me more stuff to do and I have zero time to job hunt. They still expect me to do the perfect handover on top of
  • 05
all the additional work. Not just a handover, they want me to create a concrete one year task plan and instructions FOR THEM to work with. They are incompetent and
  • 06
have no clue how to do the job plus unable to think strategically, which's required at their level. So they want me to strategise and TELL THEM what to do and how
  • 07
to do it in my absence. As I will not be there anymore they can't keep taking credit for my work and ideas and will have to actually deliver. I am so angry and it's very hard to keep being professional.

I am fired because they don't need me as an expert anymore. Fine, but why am I still given all the extra work and asked to tell the person, who was supposedly

more suitable than me to stay, how to do their job? It's very annoying and I am ready to burn all the bridges. The only thing
  • 11
that is stopping me, the industry is quite specific and my relationship with the organization can affect my career in the future.
  • 12
am absolutely not planning to train my boss in the job and give them the future plan and strategy to work with. But how can I leave on good terms? What would you do?
  • 13
Medical-Money-7327 If you don't help them, what are they going to do? Fire you? Time is of the essence, as you're more likely to find a job while employed than not. Your priority should be yourself right now, not the company that no longer needs you.
  • 14
Work on their projects so they can't say you left with a bad attitude. Just take your sweet time as you focus on the bigger picture: your next move. Good luck!
  • 15
cdancidhe Your priority is to find another job before the 2 months end. You need to start job hunting now.
  • 16
Second, work 8-5, and nothing more period, just do barely enough but do take time in that 8 hour day for job hunting. Send resumes, answer recruiters, prep for interviews, etc.
  • 17
If your boss gives you more work... let it pile up. Who cares, you are getting layoff bruh!!! Wake up. This time is about you! Let the bosses deal with the consequences of this, thats not your problem.
  • 18
The moment the last day comes, if you did not job hunt, you will absolutely regret it. With luck you leave before the 2 month period.

k23_k23 DON'T take on any more duties. ANd don't be helpful in handovers on training. Just follow the form, and be seen to be helpful. But doN'T work over 70% of what you did before. Just look busy.

Inform your boss: "Increasing my workload will not work, what do you want me to drop for it?" DOCUMENT it. And don'T worry, if deadines are missed: just state "My boss gave me other things to do. Discuss this with him!" WAve the list of additional tasks around.
